UBC medical student Adam Ramzy is one of 17 recipients of the 2019 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Award.
The award — which honours second-year medical students from across the nation — recognizes those with an established track record of community leadership, superior communication skills and demonstrated interest in advancing knowledge.
“I am extremely grateful for the support of the UBC medical program and the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. I have been fortunate to not only study alongside so many talented medical students, but also incredible graduate students and fellows in the lab of Dr. Timothy Kieffer,” says Ramzy, who recently completed his PhD in the field of diabetes at UBC.
Ramzy was ranked the number one applicant in the 2015 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship competition and has since helped advance an ongoing, groundbreaking clinical trial investigating a potential stem cell therapy for diabetes. He has also contributed to nearly 10 academic papers.
More recently, as a medical student, Ramzy has demonstrated a passion for community engagement and dedication to knowledge translation. He represented UBC as the Western Canadian Champion of the 2019 “3 Minute Thesis” competition and has presented his research at several community outreach events.
As one of this year’s CMHF award recipients, Ramzy will attend the 2020 Medical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Vancouver, where he’ll have an opportunity to meet with CMHF Laureates and interact with health leaders from across the country.
