Faculty of medicine clinical instructor Dr. Taran J. Main and recent graduate William Yip have been named recipients of the 2022–23 UBC Alumni Builder Awards.
The Alumni Builder Awards recognize alumni who have significantly contributed to the success of UBC and enriched the lives of others.
Dr. Taran J. Main, MD’19
Dr. Main is a clinical instructor in the Southern Medical Program. He is also an addictions medicine specialist and family physician in the Okanagan. He graduated from the Southern Medical Program in 2019.
He devotes his career and spare time to advocating for those experiencing homelessness, substance use, and mental illness, and he helps patients make connections within the community.
Dr. Main will be recognized at the 2023 UBC MAA AGM & Awards Ceremony in April.
William Yip, BMLSc’20, MASc’22
William, who graduated with a Master of Applied Science in Biomedical Engineering in November 2022, is a community builder who champions UBC’s values. Following his undergraduate in the Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) program, William serves as the inaugural BMLSc alumni ambassador. He is an avid supporter of the UBC community and continues to engage in meaningful conversations with current and prospective students. As a life-long learner, William is now pursuing a Master of Business Administration and is interested in innovating solutions for a more sustainable future.
William’s award will be presented as part of the BMLSc Annual Alumni & Student Social in March.
