The UBC Faculty of Medicine launched a new interactive website today, aimed at improving access and information for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) wanting to train and practice in British Columbia.
“Medical residency positions are very limited,” says Dr. Roger Wong, Post-Graduate Dean, UBC Faculty of Medicine. “We introduced a new user-focused website to outline the steps and resources available to IMGs to ensure each applicant’s best chance at success.”
The website explains the path to residency in seven easy to follow steps – from the application process right through to starting your first year in UBC’s Medical Residency Program. The interactive site also includes timelines and an updated series of FAQs built on the types of questions students ask.
The website is just one initiative the UBC Faculty of Medicine has developed with partners such as the BC Ministry of Health and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, to help reduce barriers and improve access to training for IMGs.
“Through more training positions for IMGs, an expanded UBC medical school, and a rigorous commitment to establishing teaching sites across the province, the UBC Faculty of Medicine is committed to training more doctors for BC who are more likely to practice where they are needed,” says Dr. David Snadden, Executive Associate Dean, UBC Faculty of Medicine.
