The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of UGME Director of Assessment. This is an administrative role with a three-year term appointment, renewable subject to satisfactory review. The position has a time commitment of 0.5 FTE, equivalent to two and one-half days (2.5) per week. The incumbent must have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role.
The UBC Faculty of Medicine plays a critical role in training the health professionals of the future. Students in the accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) undergraduate program have the opportunity to learn medicine at one of four geographically distinct program sites – Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) and the Southern Medical Program (SMP), where they gain invaluable training and mentoring from highly skilled clinicians.
The UGME Director of Assessment is the academic lead in providing strategic leadership for the integration, delivery, advancement, and continuous quality improvement of student assessment components across all four years of the MDUP, ensuring that objectives, and MDUP Exit Competencies are assessed within a programmatic framework.
Reports to the Associate Dean, UGME and liaises and works closely with the UGME Director of Curriculum, the Regional Associate Deans and Assistant Deans, the MDUP Directors of Administration, Senior Manager, PLAT, and other faculty leaders to ensure clear lines of communication are maintained and mutual needs and expectations are met.
The UGME Director of Assessment will act as a key advisor to the Associate Dean, UGME, providing leadership and tactical advice in relation to student assessment; foster engagement and inclusivity and creates an environment that promotes excellence in all aspects of work and culture, and aligns with the Faculty’s values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity where civility, diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and cultural safety are paramount and central to all encounters; ensure all student assessment activities align with the MDUP priorities and plan as well as institutional policies and procedures; provides strategic leadership to the student assessment portfolio across all four years of the MDUP, ensuring alignment with program objectives and MDUP Exit Competencies within a programmatic assessment framework.
The successful must hold a UBC faculty appointment or be eligible to hold a UBC Faculty appointment. The successful candidate will hold an MD and/or PhD.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated excellence and experience teaching within the MDUP.
- Knowledge of the University of British Columbia MDUP.
- Knowledge and experience in curriculum development and delivery of the MDUP.
- Familiarity with CACMS accreditation standards.
- Administrative experience; excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborative leadership skills and ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and applies an equity and inclusion framework to their work
