The Department of Orthopaedics at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the role of Residency Research Director. This is a 0.1 FTE position (half a day per week) and is for an initial term of three (3) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. The anticipated start date is to be mutually agreed upon.
This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.
The role of the Residency Research Director is to ensure all residents achieve Royal College’s research training requirements, which includes the execution and completion of a research project. The Residency Research Director reports to the Residency Program Director. The Residency Research Director will work collaboratively with Orthopaedic Surgery Residents and resident research preceptors to guide and oversee resident research endeavors and activities. The Residency Research Director will provide multifaceted expertise and consultation services regarding research activities including teaching, mentorship, evaluation and administration. The Residency Research Director is a member of the Residency Program Committee, Competence Committee, Curriculum Committee and Research Leadership Council, attending associated meetings.
Applications must hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will have the ability to build, manage and maintain high-quality and productive relationships across cultural differences. They are experienced and have expertise in the research field. The successful candidate is collaboratively spirited with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and, respect of diverse and divergent perspectives and behaviours. They will have strong leadership skills and are able to effectively respond to new and complex issues. They have the ability to interpret and apply policy and procedure. The successful candidate is someone who works in a collaborative and inclusive manner, fostering equitable experiences and a respectful environment for all staff and residents.
