
Samuel Aparicio
Samuel Aparicio, Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Sciences has been named UBC’s Distinguished University Scholar. This prestigious distinction recognizes exceptional members of faculty who have distinguished themselves as scholars in research and/or teaching and learning, or who have the potential to demonstrate such leadership.
This recognition reflects the tremendous contributions Dr. Samuel Aparicio has made to the University. Dr. Aparicio’s research program encompasses the fields of cancer genomics and translational breast cancer research. His work on breast cancer led to identification of new genes that could change the way breast cancer is diagnosed, and form the basis of next-generation treatments. This discovery was preceded by another breakthrough in decoding the genetic makeup of the most-deadly form of breast cancer.
The designation is conferred by the President on the recommendation of a review panel chaired by the VP Research and the appointment is a five-year term, renewable once.
