
Dr. Michael Hayden
Michael Hayden, Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics has been recognized with an Honourary Doctorate from the University of Gottingen in recognition of his landmark discoveries and science in genetics, neurodegeneration and personalized medicine. This is only the 28th Honourary Doctorate the University of Gottingen has given since 1945 and first since 2008. The University of Gottingen is Germany’s most famous university with 45 Nobel Laureates. It has a long and distinguished history with 45 Nobel prizes received by scientists associated with the University.
Dr. Hayden is the Canada Research Chair in Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine. He is best known for his research in Huntington disease (HD) and is the founder and director of the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT).
The laudatio was given on November 7 at the University of Gottingen by Professor Olaf Riess, MD, head of the Institute of Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics at the University of Tubingen.
