Six UBC faculty of medicine community members have been honoured by the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) with 2024 Certificate of Merit Awards and Rising Star — Certificate of Excellence Awards.

Dr. Laine Bosma
Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics
Dr. Bosma, a UBC clinical associate professor and anesthesiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital, has been training anesthesiology resident doctors for more than a decade. He introduced simulation training and competency-based medical education, as well as supported in the growth of UBC’s Anesthesiology Residency program which accepts 20 new resident doctors every year.
Dr. Tal Jarus
Professor, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy
Dr. Jarus’ research and innovations have pushed the envelope of initiating discourse on justice issues, developing practices and learning modules to support a diverse population of learners, and implementing justice issues in the health and human service professions and education, including medical education.
Dr. Alina Constantin
Instructor and MEDD Site Director years 1 & 2 | Senior Lab Instructor / Affiliate Associate Professor of Teaching, Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences, Northern Medical Program
Dr. Constantin has been a foundational member of UBC’s Northern Medical Program for more than a decade, with substantial teaching commitments across the pre-clinical curriculum. She has taken on significant leadership roles in UBC’s provincially distributed MD program and contributes to course leadership as an academic supervisor for the MD program’s flexible and enhanced learning program and as a teacher in UBC’s Master of Physical Therapy program. As a teacher and mentor, Dr. Constantin is inspiring learners across the province.

Brooke Cheng
Undergraduate, MD Undergraduate Program (Class of 2024)
Brooke is an exceptional fourth-year medical student who is insightful, creative and humble. One of her many passions is palliative care and she has made significant contributions to palliative care education in the UBC MD program. Her work in this field has ultimately made an impact at the provincial level and beyond.
Dr. Xin Mei Liu
Resident, Department of Emergency Medicine and Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) (Class of 2024)
Dr. Mei Liu is a talented and creative educator and educational leader. She has a provincial and national profile as a Point-of-Care-Ultrasound (PoCUS) instructor and has influenced numerous PoCUS curricula. During her Emergency Medicine residency, she has consistently participated in PoCUS education as both an instructor and as a curriculum designer. Dr. Mei Liu also implemented a trainer PoCUS course for doctors in remote B.C. locations. She is currently expanding her educational portfolio as one of UBC CHES’ Clinical Educator Fellows.
Liisa Wainman
Graduate Student, Experimental Medicine, Southern Medical Program (Class of 2024)
Liisa is an inspiring teacher who enlivens the study of science for women of all ages. She teaches with passion across the spectrum from school age children, to community athletes and MD undergraduate students. She is dedicated to helping students grapple with key scientific concepts that will translate into clinical practice and beyond.
