Tell us about your role as a clinical faculty member at UBC?
I have been on committees interviewing and selecting potential occupational therapy students and faculty. My latest contribution is helping to establish and maintain operational needs of an occupational therapy student-run clinic at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Best part of your job?
The creativity that is involved in the visioning and implementation of programs that support the delivery of rehabilitation services. I feel satisfied that I can be part of making changes that reflect and respond to the needs of clinicians, students, and patients.
Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by peoples’ resilience and how they demonstrate that resiliency with compassion and action. The “little” things that I have seen people do for each other, especially since the onset of the pandemic, is inspirational. It reminds me that my contributions, no matter how small, can be impactful.
Tell us about a project or endeavour that you’ve participated in that makes you proud:
One of my goals was to return to school and further my formal education and complete my Master’s degree. I am proud to have been able to follow through with this goal and I am especially proud to have my Master’s project be relevant to my current practice. My focus is on the clinician experience in telerehabilitation with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Best advice for students:
Make the most of learning opportunities that come your way. I remind students that in a very short time they will be my colleague and represent the profession I am passionate about. It is my responsibility to give students everything I can to support their learning experience and it is their responsibility to make the most of that learning opportunity. “Dive in!”
How do you like to recharge?
I enjoy quiet reflection via meditation, reading and listening to a variety of music genres. I love watching movies and spending time with my family and friends in-person, virtually or on the phone.
