Stephanie Harvard, a PhD candidate in Population and Public Health, and Erin Macri, a PhD candidate in Experimental Medicine, were named the top two finalists in the 2014 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
The 3MT is an academic competition that assists graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills. Participants have only three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.
Harvard won first place for her presentation titled “Does Quality of Spondyloarthritis Care Affect Costs and Outcomes?” As the winner of the UBC 3MT competition, she will advance to the Western Canada regional 3MT competition on May 2 at the University of Calgary. Harvard’s supervisors are Aslam Anis, a Professor in the School of Population & Public Health, and Bruno Fautrel from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France.
Macri was named Runner-Up and received the People’s Choice Award for her presentation titled “Standing up for knee arthritis.” Macri’s supervisor is Karim Khan, a Professor in the Department of Family Practice.
