Well-being

You probably came into the field of medicine because you are interested in health and caring for the health of others. But what about your own health? Medical school is a busy and often stressful time for medical students. You will be happier and more successful if you can maintain your own health. You will also make a better doctor since research shows that doctors “preach what they practice”!

The Office of Student Affairs is here to help you when you are in need, but we are also here to help promote wellness and prevent stress-related conditions.

The Wellness Initiative Network is a student run club, facilitated by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Sharon Salloum. Students decide which activities/events they want to promote wellness. Previously this has included yoga sessions at LSC, meditation, runs and walks, a Sun Run group, winter sports, nutrition seminars, community lunches, environmental sustainability initiatives, parents and children pot luck suppers, and a curricular advisory group that made recommendations to the curriculum committee about the impact of the structure of the curriculum on wellness, etc. This club is open to all and we welcome your ideas! Meetings will be advertised through the OSA listserve.
