Student Support & Development Committee

Students identified by tutors/preceptors as having difficulty in their tutorial or other in-course assessments are referred to the Student Support & Development Committee (SSDC). This Committee is intended to help students identify areas of academic concern, and to direct them to useful resources.

The SSDC consists of representatives from the Undergraduate Dean’s Office, Student Affairs Office, and the teaching faculty at each program (VFMP, IMP, NMP and SMP). Before they meet with the Commttee, students complete a Reflection/Remediation Plan which is aimed at demonstrating that the student i) understands and can critically comment on their area(s) of weakness; and ii) can set realistic and achievable goals for improvement.

At the same time the SSDC will review: i) previous tutors’ assessments of this student and, ii) the students’ self assessment portfolio, with the aim of gaining a more rounded picture of the student’s strengths and weaknesses. With the support of the SSDC the student will be encouraged to put into action specific goals for improvement.
