Biomedical Research Centre

Researcher: Dr. John Schrader
Interests: Dr. Schrader’s current research interests are in the secreted proteins – the cytokines and antibodies – through which the cells of the immune system coordinate defence and repair, and in the intra-cellular signals that regulate the production and function of blood cells.

Dr. Schrader is interested in the molecular signals that regulate the daily generation of the billions of the highly specialized blood cells that protect us from infections. Abnormalities in these signals cause diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and cancer. We also study antibodies, the enormously diverse family of proteins that target microorganisms. Faculty in the Biomedical Research Centre have developed a novel approach to generating monoclonal antibodies and are interested in their use to treat human diseases.
