Would you like to get some research experience in an academic setting?

If you are an undergraduate student with an interest in working on research and development projects at a University, you may be eligible to apply for an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) subsidizes eligible professors to hire students on their research projects, thereby creating interesting research-related jobs and giving you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

How do you find USRA positions in the Faculty of Medicine?

Try to create your own research opportunity by contacting eligible professors you would like to work with and tell them about this program. Many professors will be happy to talk to you about the opportunity to hire you at a subsidized wage. The following faculty members in Faculty of Medicine Departments, Schools or Centres are currently eligible to supervise/sponsor an NSERC-USRA student:

Deadline for Applications to the Faculty of Medicine: March 4, 2013 4:00 pm

Student applicants must submit 1 printed copy of the complete application package (including printout of scanned transcript file) including the student and supervisor names on the sealed envelope to one of the following locations:

  1. Attn: Linda Herbert/Dr. Deborah Giaschi, Faculty of Medicine Dean’s office (3rd floor of Woodward IRC on UBC Point Grey campus), OR
  2. Dr. Deborah Giaschi, Room A146, Shaughnessy Building, Children’s Hospital

Signatures are not required on your application package.

Please remember that you will need to print out your forms (part 1 and 2), to include in your application package.
