UBC Internal Letter of Intent (LOI) for 2012 LEF/NIF Competition
UBC Internal LOI Deadline: Monday, August 22, 2011
The CFI will launch a Leading Edge Fund/New Initiatives Fund (LEF /NIF) competition by December 2011. “Supporting innovative and transformative infrastructure projects leads to scientific breakthroughs and produces social, economic, environmental and health benefits to Canada. Open to all disciplines, LEF/NIF competitions enhance Canada’s capacity for leading-edge research and technology development.”
The CFI will invest $155 million under the LEF/NIF competition to support research infrastructure projects. The primary focus will be on ensuring that CFI-funded infrastructure remains at the leading edge.
The critical CFI dates for the competition will be:

| September 15, 2011 | CFI will issue “Call for Proposals” |
| November 30, 2011 | UBC Deadline for Internal Submission of Draft Proposals (see below) |
| January 10, 2012 | UBC Internal Selection Decisions Announced |
| January 20, 2012 | CFI Deadline for the submission of notices of intent |
| April 26, 2012 | CFI Deadline for the submission of proposals |
| November 13, 2012 | CFI Board decisions |

UBC requires that all faculty members interested in accessing infrastructure funding through this program must complete a Letter of Intent that can be downloaded using this LOI Link.
Please notify the Executive Associate Dean, Research, of your intention to apply by sending a copy of your completed LOI to howard.feldman@ubc.ca.
Complete the LOI and email a copy to Donna Lei at the Institutional Programs Office (dlei@exchange.ubc.ca) with a cc: copy to Michael Blades, CFI Coordinator (blades@chem.ubc.ca) by August 20th, 2011.
NOTE: On November 30th, UBC researchers interested in accessing funding through the LEF/NIF route will be required to submit a “Draft Proposal” that addresses the assessment criteria identified by CFI.
