Dr. Gisèle Bourgeois-Law, Associate Dean, Professional Development
Dr. Bourgeois-Law received her medical degree at the University of Manitoba and completed postgraduate training in both Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Over time, her practice became more focused on sexual dysfunction, chronic pelvic pain, and menopause, and she obtained a Counselling Certificate with a specialty in Working with Abused Women and Children. At the national level, Dr. Bourgeois-Law has participated on several national committees including the Canadian Taskforce on Licensure of International Medical Graduates and co-chaired the WAAIP (Western Assessment Alliance for International Medical Graduates) project. She served two terms as Secretary of CAME (Canadian Association of Medical Education) and is a member of the Royal College Credentials and CPD Accreditation Committees. Dr. Bourgeois-law moved to B.C. in September 2008 to take on the position of Associate Dean Professional Development. In this role she supports the professional development of faculty members across BC in their roles as learners, educators, researchers, service providers, and administrators in an integrated, province-wide Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Bourgeois-Law is based in Victoria and travels regularly to Vancouver.

Dr. Leslie Sadownik, Faculty Development Project Leader
Dr. Leslie Sadownik completed her residency training at the University of Calgary and a master’s degree in Adult Education at UBC. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an Associate Member of the Department of Dermatology and Skin Sciences. She is the Director of the UBC Faculty Development Program. Within the Ob/Gyn Department she has served as Head of the Division of Education, Undergraduate Chair, Reproduction Block Chair, and Clinical Skills Course Director. Her clinical practice focuses on lower genital tract disease. Dr. Sadownik has received numerous teaching awards including; the 2006 Clinical Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2002 Association of Canadian Medical Colleges Glaxo Young Educators Award, the 2000 APGO Excellence in Teaching Award and was a nominee for the Vancouver Hospital Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001 and 2002.

Yan Huang, Faculty Development Manager
Yan Huang is a social researcher with broad interests in adult education, ethno-cultural communities, Internet knowledge, program evaluation and technology. She speaks three languages and has an MA degree from the UBC Department of Educational Studies. She has recently coauthored several articles on the ethno-cultural and other predictors of Internet knowledge and use in B.C and Chinese learning cities. She also teaches research courses and conducts research projects in China.

Katherine Wisener, M.A., Undergraduate Program Manager
Katherine is the Program Manager for the Undergraduate Portfolio in the Office of Faculty Development. Katherine received an M.A. Degree in the Human Development, Learning and Culture program from UBC’s Faculty of Education and has a background in applied research, community engagement, and technology-enabled health education. Her research interests focus on how to best support learning and educational delivery in a variety of health contexts.
